Accessibility and Inclusivity

Accessibility and inclusivity are a priority in the WordPress Community, and this year WordCamp London 2017 is committed to continuing this trend.

Here is a list of all the accessible and inclusive features you can expect at WordCamp London 2017. If we have missed anything, or if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email us at london@wordcamp.org.

Crèche

We strongly encourage parents to attend WordCamp London with their children, and we will be providing childcare if required by the UK’s leading provider of mobile childcare, Nipperbout . Visit our ticket page to book tickets and find out more.

Disabled Parking

There is blue badge parking outside London Metropolitan University. The London Borough of Islington allow Blue Badge holders to park free of charge and for an unlimited period in pay-and-display and permit bays. You can also park for up to three hours on a single or double yellow line as long as there is no loading ban in force.

Hearing Loops

All rooms holding sessions and presentations are fitted with audio induction loops. This includes the Henry Thomas Room, Great Hall and GC1–08 (in the Graduate Centre).

Lactation Room

WordCamp London is a breastfeeding friendly event.

If you are breastfeeding or expressing and would like to use our lactation room, please get the key from an organiser at the main reception desk in The Rocket building.

For more information, or to arrange the use of this room at a particular time don’t hesitate to email us in advance at london@wordcamp.org

Life essentials boxes

Our life essentials boxes are located in all bathrooms. They contain sanitary products and are available for anyone to use. Please let an organiser or volunteer know if you need anything or if it needs to be refilled.

Multi-faith Room

Room: TM1-86

The multi-faith room will be accessible to all attendees during the following times:

Saturday 18th: 07:30 – 18:00
Sunday 19th: 9:00 – 17:00

Please do not use the room for any other purpose. If you’d like a quiet area, we’ve arranged the Quiet Room for you.

Speaker Selection Process

We maintain an inclusive event with this speaker selection process.

Speech to Text Reporters (STTRs)

We’ll be providing live captions for every presentation throughout the event.

Quiet Room

There will be a Quiet Room available for all attendees to use during the conference. We want people to feel comfortable using this room to relax away from the main conference areas.

Please do not use this room for taking calls. If you need to take calls please emails us london@wordcamp.org so we can arrange an appropriate place for this.

Visas

If you are visiting us from outside the UK and will need a visa to access the event, please email us at london@wordcamp.org to arrange this.

Wheelchair Access

The entire University is accessible by wheelchair, apart from the back room in The Rocket. This is where tea and coffee is served throughout Saturday 18th March and Sunday 19th March, and there will be volunteers available to provide tea and coffee to wheelchair users unable to reach this area.

Take a look at our Accessibility_At_WordCampLondon Guide. We’ve allocated a 15-minute break between every session to ensure attendees can comfortably move between tracks, and accessible bathrooms are located in The Rocket and the Graduate Centre.

If you’d like more information or would like us to arrange someone to help you on the day do not hesitate to get in touch at london@wordcamp.org.

Unfortunately, the stages in the Henry Thomas Room and GC1–08 are inaccessible to wheelchair users. We’re sorry about this.

Nearest Accessible London Underground Station

Holloway Road Underground Station is not accessible for wheelchair users.

Caledonian Road Underground Station is accessible for wheelchair users.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss any of the features above in more detail at london@wordcamp.org.
