Coming to WCLDN? Important info and what to expect

It’s the final countdown to WordCamp London 2017! We’re folding shirts, prepping snacks, double-checking slides – and can’t wait to welcome you all.

Below is some practical information we think you should know, please read through this and don’t hesitate to ask us any questions at london@wordcamp.org.

Registration

Registration for Contributor Day on Friday 17th March will be open from 09:00 – 09:30, collect your badges in the Graduate Centre. If you’re joining us, do remember your laptop and charger (you’d be surprised how many people forget!).

On Saturday, registration will be open between 07:30 – 09:00. You don’t need to print or bring your tickets with you – all we need is your name to register you. We will be serving tea and coffee, feel free to join us bright and early!

If you’re running late (even very late), don’t panic! Just make your way to the main reception and someone will point you in the right direction.

Getting there

London Metropolitan University | location link
166-220 Holloway Rd
London
N7 8DB

The nearest Underground Station is Holloway Road on the Piccadilly line, and the nearest Accessible Underground Station is Caledonian Road on the Piccadilly line. For the Overground, you’ll be needing Highbury & Islington, also on the Piccadilly line. And if buses are your thing, services to London Metropolitan University include the 43, 153, 263, 271, 393 and N41.

As the Piccadilly is a night service, you’ll be able catch a ride home late! Check out the first and last tube times here.

Arriving on your own?

If it’s your first WordCamp or you are coming on your own, during the major breaks – look out for the Hello points. These are good places to head if you’re at a loose end or if you’re a veteran and want to make someone else feel welcome. Read more!

WiFi

London Metropolitan University will be providing 8-digit unique multi-device WiFi codes to be used throughout the duration of the event. These will be shown on your badges and can be used on multiple devices. Please note: WiFi does not work if your device is connected to a proxy server.

Accessibility

We’re committed to making WordCamp London as accessible as possible to everyone. Please read our post on Accessibility at WordCamp London 2017.

Luggage Room

Mainly for suitcases and large items! If you’ll need something (like a coat) during the it might be best to keep it on you as it won’t be manned constantly.

Opening Times:
Saturday 07:30 – 10:00
Saturday 17:30 – 19:30
Sunday 10:00 – 11:00
Sunday 15:30 – close.

Hydration and catering

The world has enough plastic floating about, right? Do remember your water bottle – no doubt you’ve snagged one at a WordCamp or event at some stage. There will be water fountains and two drinks stations.

If you’re wondering about what you’ll be eating this weekend, check out what’s on the menu.

Rugby games & activities room

The six nations will be playing over the weekend, and we’re sure there will be some folks keen to keep a beady eye on the action. We’ll be screening the games in the Rocket Pool Room (where you get your badges). Enjoy!

The activities room is a great place to spend some time unwinding, there will be video games as well as the #WCLDN happiness bar (manned during all breaks and lunches).  If you need a little help with something WordPress-y, pop along and get some input from a friendly person.

Quiet room

Room TG-03

The quiet room will be open to all attendees who’d like a quiet space to have 5 minutes for yourself. Just like a quiet coach on the train, you can concentrate knowing that no one will talk to you.

The room will be accessible during the following times:

Saturday 9th April: 08:00 – 19:00
Sunday 10th April: 10:00 – 16:30

Please do not use the room for any loud activities as this is the only room we’ve reserved for official quietness and we’d like to protect that. The ground floor of the Graduate centre is best for chatter.

Crêche, child care & lactation room

It’s the second year we’re providing a crèche at WordCamp London! Mums and dads will be able to make use of this service provided by professional mobile crèche company – Nipperbout Ltd. To make use of the service, you will need to have purchased a crêche ticket – read more about that here.

We have allocated space for 10 mini people and are currently as six. If you have planned a babysitter and plans fall through, you are welcome bring your child and take them into the sessions with you.

The lactation room is GCG-10, next door to the crêche.

Evening vibes

Our Saturday schedule ends at 18:00 after which there is an hour-ish gap before dinner.

During this time, the bar in the Rocket will be open (keep in mind there will be children around) which will be a great time to catch up with folk, ask speakers your questions, and get to know some new people.

Dinner will be served at 19:00 in Track A and will be kept open until 22:30 with tables, chairs and ambient music.

Downstairs the bar and retro games will continue until close at 23:30.

Sneak preview of our retro games room!

Help on the day

If you need anything during the course of the weekend, look out for the volunteers in yellow! All our help on the day will be sporting volunteer t-shirts which includes the word Localhost on the back.

Look out for the folks in these shirts, and flag them if you need anything at all

Quick link to the Code of Conduct, which we trust no one will need to call upon.

We look forward to seeing you at the Contributor Day on Friday and over the weekend. Here’s to an excellent time together!
